Make-Up Monday: Highlighter (And my weekend)

Happy Make-Up Monday everyone!

We had some REALLY nasty storms blow through here yesterday. 70 MPH+ winds and rain. Thankfully, where we live seems to have GREAT power, so we only lost power for all of 30 seconds. Unforunately, a MAJOR artery in the Chicagoland area does NOT, and it was really creepy driving down a road that is usually lit up, being completely BLACK. It was like a country back-woods road... with 3 lanes instead of 1. Chaos has basically insued and probably will at least until tomorrow afternoon.

On to make-up!

So today I decided to talk about highlighter for shadows and bags on your face. I'm not really touching on highlighting cheekbones or the forehead or anything. More so just my real problem areas, and some thing I feel other people struggle with. Which are THESE areas:

So. Much. Baggage.
Yeah I have CRAZY amounts of baggage under my eyes. It comes from wearing glasses and allergies. Please also keep in mind I have NOTHING on my face except moisturizer. No concealer, foundation, etc.

About 8 months ago, when I started doing my Mary Kay THANG, my director showed me the highlighting pen and how to use it. I. Was. Hooked. I love how it has the "reflecting pigments" in it so it bounces the light back giving the illusion that there's no bags there. GENIUS! Just remember, a HIGHLIGHTER is NOT a CONCEALER!!! A highlighter will make a zit scream "HEY LOOK AT HOW FREAKIN HUGE I AM!!" Yeah, not cool.

So on the days I wear some kind of foundation (usually just a tinted moisturizer and some consealer) I use my highlighting pen to go over my shady areas:

Where I apply my highlighter
I apply my highlighter just under (and SOMETIMES just above--depending on how puffy I am) the puffiness of my eyes, but do NOT go onto my cheeks. It would completely defeat the purpose of what I'm doing. I also do around the sides of my nose and my cupids bow. Just seems to make my face look a little less flawed. Just like my consealer, I dab/blend *GENTLY*, being careful not to go outside of the shadows. Check out the before and after:

See the difference? And that's with no concealer or foundation. It looks a WORLD of difference better with concealer and foundation/tinted moisturizer. I'll have to show that some other time since I'm in the market for a GOOD concealer for me. Any suggestions???
Another after w/ the g's on!
I got the Wet N Wild palette too!! It was HARD to find. Everywhere I went it was SOLD OUT! I finally found one (The LAST one) at a local Jewel. I gotta say this and UD look REALLY close. I'll post swatches soon!!

SO! After my rant, I'm sure some of you are just itching to know how the rest of the weekend went. It was pretty uneventful. We saw ZZ Top yesterday, which was my 2nd time and D's first time. He was pretty excited and impressed. D plays guitar VERY well, and it's always exciting for him to see his heros and favorites playing live. So here's some pictures from Ribfest 2012:

Me bein' silly. Not drunk! Just silly.

D waiting for Joe Walsh

K had fun too

Dhanna (My 21 year bestie) enjoying a brewsky

ME enjoying the ONLY brewsky I had

HAHA! This dumbass got in trouble for bringing a TENT!! They weren't allowing large umbrellas, WTH made this guy think it would be ok to bring a TENT!?!?

There was a LOT of people there. We actually sat there for a half an hour after the concert was over just to not have to deal with the crowd, and it was still kind of claustrophobic for me. And stinky. Lots of sweaty people. BLAH!

What kinds of highlighters do you use? Which brands? How was your weekend????

Tomorrow is Terrible 2 Tuesday!! I'm going to share my story about K. Just a tidbit-- She was 2 1/2 months premature. See you tomorrow!!
